PARK
MAN AND TERRITORY
The territory of the park extends at altitudes ranging between 180 and 550 meters, but mostly around 300-350 meters. The village of Barbarano Romano rises on one of the tuff plateaus where the spectacular small gorges of the protected area open, while the others are planted with olive groves, vineyards and vegetable gardens.
Barbarano Romano is a town of about a thousand inhabitants in the province of Viterbo. It stands on the slopes of the ancient Cimino-Vicano volcanic building, 340 m above sea level. Inhabited by man since the Bronze Age, as evidenced by some archaeologists' findings, its territory is rich in motifs of naturalistic and cultural interest. The historic center is a magnificent example of a medieval village.
Counting the archaeological areas, of great suggestion starting from the necropolis of San Giuliano, and the other historical testimonies, we can well speak of the park as one of the places, in the region of the Etruscans and of the landscape of volcanic origin, most emblematic of the close union between nature and culture.
