PARK

NATURE

The park territory consists of two quite different landscapes. The first is represented in the so-called Quarto area, in the southern sector. Here there are rounded hills made up of flysch, a sedimentary rock rich in clay and therefore with soils unsuitable for cultivation. Deciduous woods and pastures rich in thorny shrubs are the environments where Maremma cows move in the wild. The other landscape even more characteristic of the park is that of the valleys, gorges carved into the tuff by the rivers - the Biedano and its tributaries - in the northern sector of the protected area.
